
Dirt Dawgs Sign UMass Amherst Players Jennings and Mackintosh for 2013

LEOMINSTER, Mass. (Friday, April, 12, 2013) - The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs are excited to announce the signings of UMass Amherst players John Jennings and Evan Mackintosh.
"John and Evan are great signings for the organization," said Scott Lettre, Director of Baseball Operations, "They both bring a lot of talent to the team and we are thrilled to watch them play for the Dirt Dawgs this summer at Doyle Field."
Jennings is a 6-foot, 200-pound freshman catcher and first baseman from Newton, MA. He has started 13 games for the Minutemen this season, hitting .205 along with 4 runs scored and one RBI.
Jennings has been reliable behind the plate for UMass, recording 77 putouts, 13 assists, and a perfect fielding percentage of 1.000.
The 6-foot catcher joined the Minutemen from Newton South High School, where as a senior he hit .415, 6 home runs, and 32 RBIs. He was named to ESPN Boston's MIAA All-State Baseball Team after his senior season.
Jennings is excited his summer with the Dirt Dawgs.
"I am very excited about this upcoming summer and being a part of this team," said Jennings, "I hope to try to help the team in any way to win games."
Mackintosh, a 6-foot 1, 190-pound freshman, is a left-handed pitcher from Whitinsville, MA. He has made three relief appearances for the Minutemen in the 2013 season.
On Wednesday, April 10, Mackintosh got his first win of the season (1-0) against Boston College, pitching 3 innings, only giving up 1 hit, and striking out 2.
The lefty pitcher attended Northbridge High School in Whitinsville, MA, leading his team to a state championship his junior year. As a senior, Mackintosh went 10-1 on the mound with an ERA of 1.50.
"I am excited to have the opportunity to play for the Dirt Dawgs this summer," said Mackintosh, "It will be fun playing with players from different college teams."
Mackintosh is also ready to get to work.
"I plan on working hard to improve my craft through every opportunity. I also look forward to putting in the work necessary to have a successful summer."
UMass Amherst, competing in the Division I Atlantic-10 Conference, is 4-17 this season.
"The Dirt Dawgs are always looking to bring in local talent," said John Morrison, Owner of the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs, "We think the fans will enjoy watching two local Massachusetts players compete this summer at historic Doyle Field."
The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs open their season at home on June 6th at 6:35 p.m.
