Wachusett Dirt Dawgs News Release

LEOMINSTER, Mass. (Friday, February, 22, 2013) - The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs have announced the signing of Tyler Mikrut and Josh Raymond for the 2013 FCBL season.

"The Dirt Dawgs are excited for Tyler Mikrut and Josh Raymond to join our organization for the 2013 season," said Scott Lettre, Director of Baseball Operations, "They come from winning programs and have proven that they have what it takes to play at this level. We cannot wait to see them out on the diamond this summer, and we hope that they can bring their winning experience to Doyle Field."

Tyler Mikrut, a 6-foot, 200-pound junior outfielder, will be joining the team from Southeast Missouri State University, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, a member of the NCAA Division I Ohio Valley Conference.

Before transferring to Southeast Missouri State this year, Mikrut played at John A. Logan Community College in Carterville, IL, where he led his team to a pair of regional Championships and a conference Championship in 2012.

As a freshman at John A. Logan CC, he hit for .280, with 8 home runs and a .517 slugging percentage.

Mikrut has played in three out of four games already this season, helping lead the Redhawks to a 4-0 start this spring. On February 19, Mikrut went 1-1 with 2 RBI after coming in to pinch hit.

"I am excited to play ball out in the New England area and represent the team," responded Mikrut when asked his thoughts on joining the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs.

On his goals for the summer, the Edwardsville, IL native is just hoping to "win ball games!"

Josh Raymond, a resident of Mahomet, IL, is a current junior playing for the Judson University Eagles, of Elgin, Illinois, competing in the NAIA.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound infielder hit for a .321 batting average last season to go along with 51 RBIs and 5 home runs. His 69 hits were good for second best on the Eagles last season.

After finishing last season 47-14, Judson University opened up the 2013 campaign ranked #25 in the NAIA.

The team has started the 2013 season 5-3 and is primed to make another run to the NAIA tournament.

Raymond's .217 batting average, good for 5 hits and 4 runs, has helped Judson jump out to their solid start this year. He has started at third base in each of their eight games so far and has batted third in the lineup.

John Morrison, Owner of the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs, is excited to see Raymond in the lineup this summer with the Dirt Dawgs.

"Raymond has been a key contributor for a ranked program early on this spring," said Morrison, "We are looking forward to him making that kind of impact with the Dirt Dawgs this summer."

The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs open their season at home on June 6th at 6:35 p.m.

The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs play at historic, and newly renovated, Doyle Field in Leominster, MA and are a 2012 expansion franchise in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League.
