Wachusett Dirt Dawgs News Release
LEOMINSTER, Mass. (Monday, April, 22, 2013) - The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs are excited to announce the signings of catcher/infielder Tim Corey and outfielder Nate Pajka for the 2013 season.
"The Dirt Dawgs organization is excited about the additions of Tim and Nate to the team in 2013," said Scott Lettre, Director of Baseball Operations, "They have both done well this spring season and we are looking forward to seeing what they can do this summer."
Corey, a 5-foot-9, 195-pound sophomore from Framingham, MA, joins the team from Colby College, a member of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), located in Waterville, ME.
Corey is currently hitting .289 with a home run and 7 RBIs for the Mules.
Prior to attending Colby College, Corey was a three-sport athlete at the Rivers School/Worcester Academy, and was named All-ISL in Baseball and was the team captain during his junior and senior seasons.
"I couldn't be more excited for the great opportunity in front of me," said Corey, "I hope to play against some great competition, grow as a player, and win games in the process."
Pajka, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound sophomore from Douglas, MA, joins the team from Bates College, also a member of the NESCAC and located in Lewiston, Maine.
He is currently hitting .250 with 9 hits and 7 RBIs for the Bobcats.
Pajka finished second in home runs in the NESCAC in 2012 with 7.
Pajka was a three-sport athlete in high school and played golf, basketball, and baseball. He was named a Dual Valley All-Star in golf all four years, in basketball for three, and in baseball for three. He also served as captain of his team in each sport for at least one year.
Pajka earned the title of the leading hitter of the conference during his 2011 baseball season.
"I am honored and very excited," said Pajka, "I hope to get better, get as many reps in as possible, have a successful summer, and learn as much as I can."
This summer is not the first time that Pajka has been seen by Leominster native Kevin Barnaby, Assistant Coach of the Dirt Dawgs.
"I coached against Nate last summer, he gave our team fits every time up, and he is one of the better hitters in our area," said Barnaby.
Pajka's power at the plate should have an impact at Doyle Field this summer.
"He hit one of the furthest balls I have ever seen hit last summer, our center fielder told our right fielder to stop looking and just run because he had no chance to catch it!" said Barnaby.
The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs open their season at home on June 6 th at 6:35 p.m.
The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs play at historic, and newly renovated, Doyle Field in Leominster, MA and are a 2012 expansion franchise in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League. The 2013 season swings into action on June 5 th .
