
Dirt Dawgs Rally past Suns

LEOMINSTER, Mass (August 2, 2014). The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs rallied late to top the Pittsfield Suns 7-4. The Dirt Dawgs were lifted by a three run eighth inning thanks to six hits.
Sam Goodwin-Boyd (Wesleyan) had a three run home run in the fourth inning to give the Dirt Dawgs a 3-1 lead. Mike Corin (URI) had three hits in the game including one RBI. Mattingly Romanin (Chicago State), Kurtis White (Franklin Pierce), and Michael Rizzitello (Dowling) all had two hits in the game. Matt Ferraiolo (URI) and Ben White (Holy Cross) combined for three scoreless innings. White earned his fourth save of the season, setting a Dirt Dawgs team record.
The Pittsfield Suns combined for only seven hits in the game. Derek Gardella (URI) had a three run home run in the sixth inning to put the Suns on top 4-3. Perry Kulaga (Merrimack) pitched five innings, only allowing a three run home run while also striking out six. Dan Palazzo (Columbia) also had one hit and one RBI in the game.
The Dirt Dawgs will host the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide on Sunday August 3rd for Digger's fourth birthday. First pitch is slated for 4:35. Tom Mahoney (Western New England) will make his second start for the Dirt Dawgs.
