Dirt Dawgs Fall To Seacoast 10-2

June 22, 2012 - Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL)
Old Orchard Beach News Release

After a rough start, the Dirt Dawgs can't come back as they fall to Seacoast 10-2.

After stranding their leadoff hitter, Matt Lerner, at third base in the top of the first, the Dirt Dawgs allowed 4 runs in the bottom of the first to Seacoast. After a couple of misplayed balls, the Dirt Dawgs plated two unearned runs in the top of the 2nd, cutting the lead in half. But after that, starter Derek Drag allowed 3 more runs in the bottom of the inning, making the score 7-2. A deficit the Dirt Dawgs would not be able to overcome, as they did not score again the rest of the night.

After the rough start, Erik Jacobsen came into relief for Drag at the start of the third. Jacobsen pitched very well, except for in his second inning of relief, in which he allowed 3 runs on back-to-back home runs. This made the score 10-2, what would prove to be the final score.

The Dirt Dawgs had chances throughout the game to score runs, as they had runners in scoring position often, but they couldn't find the clutch hit to plate them. Catch the Dirt Dawgs at the Summer Stroll on Saturday, and come to Doyle that night to see them face Old Orchard Beach, a 6:35pm start time.
