Dirt Dawgs Fall Short on Father's Day

Portsmouth, NH (Sunday, June, 16, 2013) The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs fought hard but ended up falling a little short in the long run against the Seacoast Mavericks on Father's Day 5-3.

The Dirt Dawgs started strong with Derek Lowe (Sudbury, MA) leading off the game with a solo homerun. In the second inning the Wachusett ballclub took a two run lead with Tyler Mikrut (Edwardsville, IL) scoring on a dropped third strike to Austin Mock (State College, PA).

This score would stay in the Dirt Dawgs favor till the bottom of the third inning when the Mavericks offense fired up. It started with Victor Sorrento (Monroe Township, NJ) doubled to left field scoring Rob Hogenkamp (St. Louis, MO) from first. James Nevant (Asheville, NC) scored Victor Sorrento (Monroe Township, NJ) with a homerun. The scoring just continued into the bottom of the fourth with two homeruns by the Mavericks, one by Keegan Pafford (Portsmouth, NH) and Buck McCarthy (Saugus, MA).

The score would stay the same until the top of the ninth when Austin Sistrunk (Franklin, TN) hit a homerun to cut the lead down to two. The winning pitcher was Jared Stanley (Jacksonville, FL) who went 5.0 strong innings and giving up 2 runs on 4 hits, while the Dirt Dawgs starter Thomas Fitzpatrick (Dorchester, MA) who went 5.0 innings while giving up 6 hits and 5 runs with 4 earned runs.

The Dirt Dawgs take the field again against the Seacoast Mavericks on Monday June 17th at 6:35pm at Leary Field.
