Dirt Dawgs Appoint Manager of Marketing and Events

January 25, 2012 - Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL)
Wachusett Dirt Dawgs News Release

The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs today announce the appointment of Matthew "Matt" Berthiaume as the team's Manager of Marketing and Events.

President and Principal Owner John Morrison made the announcement on behalf of the Dirt Dawgs organization. Morrison added, "Matt comes highly recommended by the Lowell Spinner's organization. There is no better organization to learn the ropes on creating fun and family-friendly events at the ballpark."

Matt spent the 2011 season with the Lowell Spinners and Nashua Silver Knights organizations, handling events marketing for the Single-A Penn League All-Star game and working with the Silver Knights marketing staff. Matt is in the process of completing his Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management at Nichols College in Dudley, Mass. Matt also has events management experience with the Worcester Sharks organization and the Gillette stadium events staff.

Growing up in Nashua, N.H., Matt competed on the diamond as a catcher for Nashua High School North, until an injury forced him to hang up his spikes. Despite the setback, Matt's love for the game made him determined to pursue a career in the field, leading him to his studies at Nichols.

The hiring of Matt was enthusiastically endorsed by Tim Baumann, President and General Manager of the Spinners for his work last summer. "As the host franchise of the [2011] New York-Penn League All-Star Game, we laid out what our intentions were from a marketing perspective and Matt really took control and ran with things. He did a tremendous job and I expect he will bring that same energy and success to the Dirt Dawgs this summer."

Morrison and Berthiaume's first order of business was to establish the team as a member of the North Central Chamber of Commerce, with Morrison highlighting the good fortune of having a well-run Chamber that really supports the small business community. Chamber President David McKeehan made it clear the Chamber was ready to help the team get the word out about its upcoming season. "The region is very passionate about sports; we couldn't be more enthusiastic about working with Matt and the team," he said.

Berthiaume, a Nashua resident, was excited to be named to this important staff position in its inaugural season. On what his plans might be for the upcoming season, Berthiaume stated, "We will absolutely do anything and everything it takes to become a recognized staple within the North Central community. We're going to keep you entertained between innings, we're going to run some very fun and wacky promotions, and we are going to keep our fans involved with this team as much as possible. Whether you are 8 years old, or 80 years old, you will have a great time seeing us in action this summer. You can't beat fun at the ol' ball yard."

The Dirt Dawgs play at historic Doyle Field in Leominster, MA and are a 2012 expansion franchise in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League.
