Wachusett Dirt Dawgs News Release

LEOMINSTER, Mass. - The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs are excited to announce the singings of Anthony Gingerelli, Derek Lowe, and the return of Joe Saia.

"Heading into 2013, we are looking to improve our roster from our inaugural 2012 season," said Scott Lettre, Director of Baseball Operations, "The signings of these three players will help achieve that. Gingerelli and Lowe will bring fresh talent to the Dirt Dawgs, while we are looking forward to Saia returning for the 2013 season."

Saia, a native of Everett, MA, is a 6-foot, 190-pound sophomore left handed pitcher. The lefty pitches for Suffolk University, competing in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (D-3).

This past season, Saia started six games for Suffolk, posting a 3-1 record. He had an ERA of 4.94 to go along with 21 strikeouts.

Saia is also one of two returning players from last season. During the 2012 season, the lefty made 12 relief appearances for the Dirt Dawgs.

"I'm very excited to be part of the Dirt Dawgs organization for the second year," said Saia, "I can't wait for the season to get underway. I'm going to give it my all to help the team win. Hopefully we make the playoffs and win the FCBL championship, that's the goal."

Gingerelli, a 6-foot 1, 175-pound outfielder, will be joining the Dirt Dawgs after completing his sophomore season at Bucknell University.

The Worcester, MA native started 28 games for Bucknell this season, recording a .284 batting average, 29 hits, 13 runs, and 13 RBIs. He was also very reliable in the field as he had a fielding percentage of 1.000.

Gingerelli was a top performer at the Patriot League (D-1) Tournament as he went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored against Holy Cross. For his efforts, the sophomore was named to the All-Tournament team.

Gingerelli is a 2011 graduate of Burncoat High School, where he was a four-sport athlete. As a senior, he was named to the Worcester Telegram & Gazette All-Star Team and was a Team Massachusetts High School All-Star Game selection.

The Bucknell standout is thrilled to be joining the Dirt Dawgs organization this summer.

"I'm really excited to join the team. It's going to be a great experience getting to play with such great players and coaches. I feel spoiled to be joining the team."

Gingerelli is also looking to improve this summer.

"We have a saying at Bucknell: Get 1% better everyday, and that is what I'll be trying to accomplish. I hope to become a better teammate and player this summer. My number one goal with baseball is to always have fun."

Lowe is a 6-foot 1, 185 pound outfielder who will be joining the Dirt Dawgs from the College of William & Mary.

"I am so pumped (about joining the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs this summer)," said Lowe, "I hope to win a summer league title."

The Sudbury, MA local, started 54 games for the Tribe this season, hitting for .225, 36 hits, and 9 RBIs. The senior outfielder played a major role in William & Mary going 35-20 and reaching the Colonial Athletic Association (D-1) Tournament.

Before attending William & Mary, Lowe had a successful prep career at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, where he was a member of the 2007 Division 1 State Championship Team. As a captain his senior season, Lowe went 6-0 on the mound with a 1.91 ERA. He was also named the 2009 Sudbury Male Athlete of the Year.

"Saia, Gingerelli, and Lowe all bring a high level of college baseball experience that will help the Dirt Dawgs this year," said John Morrison, Owner of the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs, "All three players are local to Massachusetts, and with Saia being a returning player, the fans will be excited to see them play at historic Doyle Field this summer."

The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs open their season at home on June 6th at 6:35 p.m.
