Abilene Prairie Dogs News Release
ABILENE, TX - Baptism by fire. Those who practice the philosophy believe that there is no better way to gain acclimation than through engaging in the practice itself. As he has so many times in 2012, Bobby Brown practiced this axiom again on Monday night.
Because a shoulder injury forced Tommy Hoenshell to the inactive list, reliever Derrick Dingeman joined the Prairie Dogs just hours before their 7:05 first pitch in San Angelo. By the seventh inning, Dingeman was found himself relieving an injured Matt Larkins and trying to protect a one-run lead with the tying run on second base.
Dingeman, a 22-year-old righty from Lakewood California, responded, retiring all three men he faced to leave the tying run at third in the seventh. He returned for the bottom of the eighth and worked through the inning while facing only three batters to keep the Dogs in front by a run headed to the top of the ninth.
The former Cal Stae Fullerton Titan is in his first season of professional baseball and was acquired from the Alpine Cowboys of the Pecos League where he made 21 appearances (one start) and was 1-2 with a 6.98 ERA. The righty tossed 29.2 innings and allowed 34 hits, 11 walks, and struck out 25 batters in his time with the Cowboys.
The Prairie Dogs continue their eight-game series with San Angelo with a 7:05 first pitch at Foster Field on Tuesday night. Hear the game on 106.9 KLGD or on the internet at abileneprairiedogs.com beginning with the First Financial Pregame Show at 6:55.
