Diggs Upset about Dismissal

Bubba Diggs may have been hired in an untimely fashion by the South Carolina Force indoor football franchise, but the same may be said for his release from the team.

Diggs was let go just one game into the season, (39-18 loss to the Fayetteville Guard) long before he felt he'd had a chance to make the club a winner.

"That's unethical," Diggs said via telephone interview, "One game isn't enough to prove anything."

Diggs, who was a member of Clemson's 1981 National Championship team, was announced by the team as head coach on January 29, less than seven weeks before the team's season first game ever.

"I took it late, but I was excited about coming back to the area, and being near Clemson again," said Diggs.

"I was really working with a makeshift team, said Diggs, "with the exception of Anthony Young and Isaac West, I didn't know any of these guys, and the staff was given to me, I didn't bring any of them in."

The Butler High grad has been involved with a handful of indoor and arena teams. He was on the Augusta Stallions staff from 2000-2002, and the Columbus Wardogs in 2003. He was the defensive coordinator for the Macon Knights in 2004, and served as head coach of the Augusta Spartans, in 2006 and 2007, and the Augusta Colts in 2008.

Under his command, the Augusta Spartans won the 2007 World Indoor Bowl as members of the World Indoor Football League.

He left the Colts following the 2008 season amid a contract dispute with the team.

"I've been in the game a long time, and won the championship in '07, to be treated this way is just very unprofessional on their part."

Diggs and Force general manager Tony Wells had their differences from the onset.

"I never saw eye to eye with Tony. He expected too much from this team, I wanted to bring in some different players, and I knew it was going to be a process that took several weeks, but he wasn't willing to wait."

Diggs isn't sure what he will do next.

"Right now I'm going to watch my daughter play softball, and take some time to think about things. It is what it is, and something will work out."
