March 31, 2003 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
Tri-City Diesel News Release

The Tri-City Diesel overcame early injuries and miscues to win their home opener 38-28 against the LaCrosse Night Train.

In a game marred by penalties, a combined 23 penalties for 122 yards by both teams, the Diesel finally pulled away in the second half. A 48-yard touchdown pass from Roger Linn to Kevin Rhaburn and a 30-yard interception return by Anthony Parker helped to put the Diesel in the lead. A Sherman Jones interception return for a touchdown in the fourth put the Diesel up for good, LaCrosse added a final touchdown to pull within ten but it wasn't enough as the Diesel held on for the win

Offensively, Jones rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries breaking the team's single game rushing record of 87, which he set in last weekend's game. Linn was 6 of 17 for 70 yards after stepping in for starter Brian Villanueva after he went down on the first offensive play of the game. The offensive line played impressively as Jesse Eaton was named the Offensive MVP for the Diesel.

Luke Kucera led the Diesel defense with seven tackles and a sack followed by Justin Comstock with six including two for a loss and one fumble recovery. Parker, who was named the Diesel's Defensive MVP for the game, had four tackles and an interception for a touchdown.

The win brings the Diesel to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in the Pacific North Division. The Sioux City Bandits come to town next weekend with kickoff at 7:35 p.m. at the Tri-City Arena. Single game tickets are on sale and may be purchased at the Tri-City Arena box office or by calling (308) 338-8011.
