
Diamonds Take Final Game of Series from Racers, 3-2

Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium, July 15, 2012 - The Akron Racers suffered an extra inning defeat at the hands of the Carolina Diamonds. Tied 2-2 in the bottom of the eighth, Diamonds short stop Bianca Mejia blasted a walk-off home run to seal the 3-2 victory for Carolina.
Sharonda McDonald led the way at the plate for the Racers, getting two hits in three appearances. Megan Bush and Kelley Montalvo scored runs for the Racers, while Kaylyn Castillo recorded an RBI.
Rookie and recently signed pitcher Erin Arevalo took the loss for the Racers, pitching 6.1 innings for just three hits and six strikeouts in her first career start.
The Racers return to Firestone Stadium on July 19 to host the USSSA Florida Pride in a four game series. July 19 will feature a meet and greet with Jim Tressel and free tickets for that night's ballgame will be available at the Howe Avenue location of Chick-Fil-A on July 19. Friday, July 20, will be Military Appreciation Night at Firestone Stadium with free entry for current and past military personnel. July 21 features Hawaiian Beach Party Night where fans are encouraged to wear their favorite Hawaiian shirts and grass skirts to the game. Sunday, July 22, is Scout Day and Pepsi Kids Day with a special patch for all scouts in attendance.
