July 9, 2013 - Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL)
Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs News Release
The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs welcomed the first place Glens Falls Golden to Veteran's Memorial Park for its Perfect Game Collegiate League (PGCBL) contest on Tuesday evening. The first place Golden Eagles also boast the best record in the league coming in with a 17-9 record. The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs sent Gavin Culpepper (Southeastern Louisiana) to the mound with a 2-2 record while the Golden Eagles started Fernando Fernandez-Beltran (Vanier) who was 3-2. The DiamondDawgs lost 6-2 after rain came with one out in the seventh.
The Golden Eagles struck early in the top half of the first when Garrett DeGallier (Tacoma C.C) started things off with a triple and Bryan Ramirez (UTPA) sacrifices giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
The Dawgs had an opportunity in the bottom of the third to get on the board but stranded runners at the corners.
The Dawgs struck, however in the bottom of the fourth when Dalton Herrington (ULM) doubles and Landon Thibodeaux (LSU Eunice) singled to tie the game at one. After a walk to Craig Lepre (UAlbany) and Joey Tracy (UAlbany) at the plate the Glens Falls pitcher threw to first and sent the ball into the outfield and the Dawgs took a 2-1 lead.
The Golden Eagles bounced right back in the next inning when Emmanuel Forcier (New Mexico J.C) reached on a bunt, James Smith (Saint Peter's) singles and DeGallier bashed his second double of the game putting Glens Falls up 3-2. The Golden Eagles struck again in the top of the seventh when Smith singles and stole a base, Justin McAllister (Yavapai) walked, DeGallier singled resulting in a play at the plate where the ball was dropped and they jumped out to a 4-2 lead. The Golden Eagles added two more for good measure when Bryan Ramirez (UTPA) doubled scoring two more and the lead increased to 6-2. Then the skies opened up and the rains came fast and furious - the game was called with one out in the top of the seventh making it an official game and the Golden Eagles would pick up the win.
The winning pitcher was Fernando Fernandez-Beltran (Vanier) who improved to 4-2 and Culpepper got the loss dropping to 2-3. Leading Glens Falls was Garrett DeGallier (Tacoma C.C) who was 3-for-3 with two triples and a single and also reached on an error.
The DiamondDawgs are back at Veterans Memorial Park Wednesday, July 10, 2013 for a 7:05pm contest against the Utica Brewers.
