Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs News Release

After a tough 4-2 loss to the Albany Dutchmen on Sunday, the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs headed back home to the friendly confines of Veteran's Memorial Park, hoping to get back to their winning ways against Glens Falls.

They did so in a big way, scoring five in the first inning and eight in the first three innings as they pummeled the Golden Eagles (7-9), 12-6.

With the win, Mohawk Valley stops the Golden Eagles' winning streak at three games.

Glens Falls starter Fernando Fernandez-Beltran (Montreal, Quebec, Canada/New Mexico Junior College) just could not get it together, facing 14 Mohawk Valley (12-5) batters in the first two innings before being pulled in the third inning. Fernandez-Beltran would be saddled with his third loss of the season, as in four appearances for the Golden Eagles, he has yet to record a win.

The Golden Eagles would not give up, however, as they chipped away at Mohawk Valley's lead, scoring four in the middle innings, including a run scored on a hit batsman by Mohawk Valley starter Bryan Greig (New City, NY/Mercy), to cut the lead to 8-4.

The Diamond Dawgs would not be denied, picking up another four runs in the seventh and eighth innings and relying on relievers to keep the Golden Eagle bats at bay.

Glens Falls would score two more runs in the top of the ninth with two outs, but reliever Enzo Esposito (Lawrenceville, NJ/Millersville) would make right fielder Alex Wichmann (Granby, CT/ Central Connecticut State) pop up to left field to ice the game.

Greig would pick up his first win in four appearances, evening his record to 1-1.

The Golden Eagles will look to start a new winning streak on Tuesday as they travel to Amsterdam to face a red-hot Mohawks team that has won nine straight. The Diamond Dawgs will have a day off on Tuesday before meeting the same Glens Falls team at East Field on Wednesday.
