Diamond Dawgs hold off Albany rally, defeat Dutchmen, 11-8

Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs News Release

The Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs came to Veteran's Memorial Park well-rested after two days off (one scheduled, one the result of a rain-out), and it certainly showed, as they scored 11 runs in the first two innings and defeated the Albany Dutchmen, 11-8.

Dutchmen (10-7) starting pitcher Austin Goeke (Bordentown, NJ/Wagner) faced 7 Diamond Dawg batters in the first inning, all three runs coming on a Zach Collett (Westbrook, ME/New Haven) home run. Goeke would not even make it out of the second inning, scoring eight more runs before being pulled for reliever Dylan McGee (Katy, TX/Trinity). Goeke would also get the loss for Albany, lowering his record to 0-1 in six appearances.

The Dutchmen would not go down easily, however, battering Mohawk Valley (13-5) starter Evan Davis (Little Falls, NY/Marist) and relievers Lucas Godlewski (Little Falls, NY/Herkimer College) and Evan Kissinger (Baton Rouge, LA/LSU-Eunice) for six runs. Cameron Miller (Houston, TX/Baylor) and Danny Hrbek (Effort, PA/Radford) would bash home runs of their own, both to center field, to cut the lead to 11-6.

They would cut the lead to only three at 11-8 on solid hitting by the middle of the Albany lineup. However, it would not be enough, as Kissinger would pitch solidly for the last two innings to ice the game for the Diamond Dawgs, and also earn his first save.

With the win, the Diamond Dawgs extend their winning streak to two games, while snapping Albany's streak of the same length. Mohawk Valley also extended their lead over idle Amsterdam to one game atop the PGCBL Eastern Division.

The Diamond Dawgs will travel on Friday to face those same Amsterdam Mohawks for the division lead. The Dutchmen will travel back to Bob Bellizzi Field to try and get back on track against the sliding Glens Falls Golden Eagles.
