Devil Rays announce 2006 season schedule

The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays have announced their 2006 season schedule today.

The Devil Rays will try to extend their Minor League Baseball best nine-season winning streak to a decade in 2006 as they play at Lansing on April 6 and 7 to open the season. The first home game is on Saturday, April 8 against the Lansing Lugnuts for the beginning of a five-game homestand.

New for 2006 will be the introduction of all Sunday games beginning at 3:35 p.m. Southwest Michigan will feature seven morning games with start times scheduled for 11:05 a.m. The first of these is Wednesday, April 12. The Rays have eight games that envelop the Tuesday, July 4 game.

"We're excited to release the 2006 schedule," Devil Rays GM Martie Cordaro said. "Our staff is working hard to build on our successes of the 2005 season."

The defending Midwest League champion South Bend Silver Hawks have two stops in the Cereal City from Tuesday, May 16 until Friday, May 19 and Saturday, August 5 through Tuesday, August 8. The Lugnuts play just two other games in C.O. Brown Stadium on Monday, May 29 and Tuesday, May 30. The West Michigan Whitecaps visit the Devil Rays for a four-game series Thursday, May 25-Sunday, May 28 and during a three-game set in mid July on Wednesday the 12th to Friday the 14th. The Fort Wayne Wizards make the most trips to C.O. Brown in 2006 with three separate stops from April 10-12, June 29-July 2 and July 20-23.

Southwest Michigan has a fully loaded month of May with 18 home games during a 23-day stretch. The Devil Rays will have four separate eight-game homestands with one in April and May and two in August. June features the fewest dates with only six scheduled games during the sixth calendar month. The Swing of the Quad Cities visits C.O. Brown Stadium from June 10-13. The Devil Rays home schedule ends on Thursday, August 31 when the Beloit Snappers play the finale in a 7:35 p.m. start.
