Hip-Hop, the colorful Philadelphia 76ers mascot, highlights a busy promotional weekend for the Roanoke Dazzle when he makes an appearance at the Roanoke Civic Center for Saturday's game against Asheville. Saturday is also Nextel Food Drive Rally Towel Giveaway Night when fans can trade an item of non-perishable food for a Dazzle Rally Towel. Dazzle fans with a Kroger Plus Card will also be admitted for just $8.
On Friday the Dazzle and Huntsville play the back end of a basketball double-header at 7 p.m. ET. The first game features a local high school match-up between Virginia Western and Southside high schools. That tip off is set for 4 p.m. at the Roanoke Civic Center.
The Charleston Lowgators Kid's Club will be up and running both Friday and Sunday for games at the North Charleston Coliseum. Membership is free and entitles members to access fun stuff like Pop-A-Shot games, a balloon artist and face painting. "THIS WEEK IN THE NBDL"
The second episode of "This Week in the NBDL", a weekly program featuring the top stories and players from the National Basketball Development League, airs this evening on NBA TV. A new segment begins this week called NBDL All-Access, where NBDL players and coaches take cameras where they wouldn't normally be allowed. Guests this week include NBDL Director of Basketball Operations and Player Personnel Chris Alpert and Columbus head coach and former NBA All-Star Jeff Malone. The show airs every Monday throughout the season at 6 p.m. ET.
TOP PERFORMANCES
Roanoke Dazzle forward Mikki Moore leads the NBDL in scoring, averaging 20.3 points per game. Charleston point guard Tierre Brown is close behind at 19.5.
Charleston post man Karim Shabazz has taken the early rebounding lead with 20 in his first two games.
Charleston forward Rolan Roberts, as well as Moore and his Roanoke teammate George Williams have been shooting the lights out in the early part of the season, all connecting on .667 percent of their field goal attempts. Roberts is 12-for-18, Williams 22-for-33 and Moore 26-for-39.
Marque Perry of Roanoke and Omar Cook of Fayetteville lead the league in assists with 8.3 and 7.3 per game, respectively.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
It shouldn't come as a surprise that Roanoke is off to a 3-0 start. The Dazzle leads the league in field goals made (114), field goal percentage (.523), free throw percentage (.705), three-pointers made (9), points scored (292), defensive rebounds (110), total rebounds (145) and assists (57).
In a relative paradox, Charleston is second in the league in points per game with 90.0, but is last in the league in assists with 10.5 pg.
ON NBA TV
The Asheville vs. Columbus game from Nov. 28 will air today at 4 p.m.
Next week's game features Asheville at Roanoke. Airtime is Dec. 8 at 4 p.m.
