Detroit wins in front of sellout crowd at Compuware Sports Arena

(Southfield, Mich., February 17, 2007) - The Detroit Ignition (12-9) defeated the Chicago Storm (9-10), 16-10, in front of 3,841 at Compuware Sports Arena in Plymouth, MI on Saturday. The night's game-winning goal was a two-pointer by Miodrag Djerisilo at the 2:36 mark of the fourth quarter. The Detroit offense was led by captain Novi Marojevic who led all scorers with six points, registering one three-point goal, one two-point goal and an assist on the night. In its next Major Indoor Soccer League contest, the Ignition plays host to the Philadelphia KiXX on Sunday, February 25. Game time is slated for 4:35 pm ET.

John Ball started the night's scoring with a two-point goal from John Ball at 9:58 off a pass from Chris Handsor to give Chicago the 2-0 advantage. Rookie midfielder Matthew Stewart registered a two-point goal for Chicago at 14:35 to give the Storm a 4-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Mike Apple put the Ignition on the board with a two-point, power play goal just :47 seconds into the second quarter, bringing the Storm lead to just 4-2. Midfielder Andy Rosenband extended the Storm lead back to two goals with a two-point goal at 4:49, bringing the Chicago advantage to 6-2 at halftime.

Mike Apple started off the third quarter's scoring for the Ignition with another power play goal, his second two-pointer of the night, at 6:23 to cut the Chicago lead down to 6-4 off a pass from Detroit captain Novi Marojevic. Marojevic registered a three-point goal on the power play for Detroit at 9:50, giving the first-year club its first lead of the game at 7-6. Storm forward Jorge Valle responded quickly with a two-point goal at 10:34, giving Chicago the 8-7 advantage. Marojevic tallied his second goal of the night, a two-pointer, at 11:31 hand the lead back to Detroit at 9-8. Chicago forward Mark Ughy registered his third point on the night with a two-point goal at 12:42 to hand the Storm the 10-9 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Detroit got on the board first in the fourth quarter with a two-point tally from Miodrag Djerisilo at 2:36, giving the Ignition the 11-10 lead. Ignition forward and MISL leading scorer Jamar Beasley tallied his twenty-ninth goal of the season off a pass from Chile Farias, a two-pointer, at 6:49 to extend the Detroit lead to 13-10. Hewerton finished the game's scoring with a three-point goal against the sixth attacker at 14:45 to hand Detroit the 16-10 victory over the visiting Storm.
