Waza Flo News Release

With a score of 10-9 in double overtime Detroit Waza Co-Coaches Dominic Scicluna and Costea Decu led their team to a crucial victory Saturday combining for six goals, in a Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL-Pro) instant classic.

Scicluna scored a late fourth quarter goal to tie the game, and again, in the second overtime to secure the win. Decu led the team in scoring with a four-goal night, keeping Detroit close enough for an opportunity to win.

The fast paced and physical game gives Detroit a pivotal victory upping their record to (7-5), and in line to take the last playoff spot while snapping Louisville's four-game winning streak, dropping their record to (6-7).

"The win was like a double edged sword," stated head coach Dominic Scicluna. "The win keeps us in the playoff race and knocks the Lightning out, who would have tied with us (in the loss column)had they won."

The game started with Louisville taking the lead and keeping it much of the game. Backed by a home crowd of 300 plus, Detroit knew the stakes were high and kept fighting back. "Louisville is a young, physical team that plays at a very fast pace, while Detroit's team is older in age and experience, bringing two different styles together for very exciting action packed game," added associate head coach Costea Decu.

"We had to work extremely hard and long for this one tonight," Detroit defender Scotty Wright explained. "It took everything we had, but as Waza Warriors, our training prepares us for situations just like this."

Detroit Waza continues their run for the franchise's first playoff berth when they welcome the Ohio Vortex, Saturday, February 19th at home (Taylor Sportsplex 13333 Telegraph rd.). Kick off is at 6:30.
