Waza Flo News Release

Detroit hit the road last weekend for their final away games of the season with huge playoff implications at stake. The Waza needed wins against both the Cincinnati Saints and Cleveland Freeze to assure a first round bye in the Eastern division playoffs, and for the chance to host the division championship game.

Detroit opened the scoring half way through the first quarter off the foot of Niki Djokic and tallied another score with a minute left in the quarter from Zane Polack. The second half was all Cincy's as they netted 2 free-kick goals from Hertsenberg and Griest to even the scoring. After a power play goal from Griest, and two goals from Deyhle and Hansson, the Saints went back to the locker room with a 5-2 lead.

Detroit regained their composure in the second half getting a power play goal from Costea Decu and another from Zack Bowman to end the 3rd quarter down by a goal.

Detroit opened the final quarter with an early goal from Victor Otieno to tie the game at 5 all. With just 4 minutes to play, the Waza retook the lead off the foot of captain Miki Djerisilo, but Cincinnati responded 11 seconds later with a goal from Shugh to even up the game again.

With 1:35 left in the final frame, the Saints went on the power play with a chance to put Detroit away. An errant turnover led to a breakaway for Detroit's Michael Grba and he was taken down from behind by Tenhundfeld, a play that resulted in a penalty shoot-out opportunity for Detroit. The chance was converted by Costea Decu to put Detroit ahead 7-6 with just 44 seconds remaining. With their goalkeeper pulled and Detroit still on the penalty kill, Cincy's Fiore scored with just 23 seconds remaining to tie the game once more and send play into overtime. At the 12:19 mark of the overtime period, defender Jayme Kapinos found the back of the net off a pass from Decu to give Detroit the victory. Waza Flo stay right on Cleveland's heels for home field advantage.

Djerisilo had two assists along with his goal, Decu had two assists along with two goals, and Tino Scicluna tallied an assist in the game. The Waza travel to Cleveland to take on the Freeze Sunday afternoon in a division battle with 2nd place on the line.
