Waza Flo News Release

The Detroit Waza Flo Pro handed 1790 Cincinnati its first loss of the season in sensational fashion with a 6-1 domination at Compuware Arena. The match also served as the quarter finals of the US Open Cup meaning Waza advances to the semi-finals against St. Louis.

Tom Eller and Rogerio Oliveria scored 1:04 apart late in the first quarter to give Waza a 2-0 lead. Daniel Trosper extended the lead to three- nil after he skipped past two defenders and smashed a shot into the roof of the net.

Doran Dauri took advantage of a rare Craig Salvati goalkeeping error to tap in the fourth late in the third quarter and player/coach Dominic Scicluna put Waza up by five when his shot found the far corner.

Eller then recorded his fourth consecutive multi-goal game to put Waza in a commanding 6-0 lead. The goal ties Eller with Blake Ordell at the top of the Waza scorers chart with 11 goals.

Chris Miliano volleyed in a consolation goal for 1790 late in the waning moments of the match, keeping 1790 from becoming the first team to ever be shut out in a PASL- Pro match.

The win was sweet revenge for Waza who lost the first three matches to 1790 by scores of 9-4, 9-8, and 9-1 respectively.

"Today was an excellent victory for us," player/coach Dominic Scicluna said. "We were side by side with them in the first two games we played this season and I knew that things would be different when they came to Detroit. I also think this victory shows this league how talented we are, despite our record (4-8)."

"Defensively we played a perfect game," Defender Tommy Stark said as he emerged from the locker room. "We made only one error and they took full advantage. Other then that, we played solid defense, were patient on the attack and we took our chances well."

Waza has two weeks to recover before its next match with another league power, the Stockton Cougars on Sunday, February 8th at 7:00 P.M. at Compuware Arena. Getting everyone healthy will be the key, but Waza showed tonight that when the team has a consistent line-up and plays to its full potential, the boys from Detroit can match up against any team in the PASL- Pro league.
