Detroit Waza Flo Earns Trip To The Finals

(Detroit, MI)- With less than two minutes remaining on the overtime clock, Detroit's Miki Djerisilo dashed Rio Grande Valley's hopes of a national title with a tap in power play goal just past their keeper's fingertips. It was Miki's second for the night and marked another clutch performance for the Detroit captain.
Scoring started early for the WAZA FLO when veteran forward, Worteh Sampson, (assist Djerisilo) found the back of the net at the 3:00 mark, ÃÂ but was quickly answered when Rio's Teran found the feet of Flores who fired one past Detroit's keeper, Joey Kapinos. ÃÂ Detroit found themselves on their heels when RGV's Malacara hit a laser shot from nearly the half mark to end the first with WAZA down 2-1.
Detroit regrouped in the second quarter with an almost unanswered trifecta of goals by Fernando Gatica, Niki Djokic and Aaron Byrd to put WAZA FLO up 5-2 when RGV countered with a late goal by Garcia.
The fourth period found Detroit up 5-4, killing a power play with little time left on the clock. ÃÂ A questionable foul put the WAZA FLO two men down defending three on five, giving RGV the advantage to even the score. ÃÂ Key saves by WAZA FLO rookie Kapinos sent Detroit and RGV into golden goal overtime. ÃÂ With just ÃÂ 1:30 left on the OT clock, and a ÃÂ power play advantage, WAZA's Worteh Sampson found the feet of Miki Djerisilo to seal the semi-final victory for Detroit.
"I'm thrilled", stated head coach Dominic Scicluna, "We are the underdog and we continue our march. I look forward to tomorrow's championship game, and to bring home another cup for our city!"
Detroit WAZA FLO will take on the winner of the Las Vegas Legends/San Diego Sockers semi-final for the National PASL title, the Ron Newman Cup, to be played Monday, March 11th 10:30 EST in San Diego's Valley View Casino Center.
