Detroit Unable to Overcome San Diego Sockers

(Detroit, MI) The Detroit WAZA FLO went into this final match of the Ron Newman Cup brimming with confidence as they sought to claim victory. However, San Diego proved too much for Detroit to overcome as they fell 10-7 to the Sockers.
Detroit WAZA dominated the first quarter where Costea Decu and Ryan Mack were each able to find net within the first two minutes of the match. San Diego countered shortly thereafter with a goal of their own to end the period 2-1.
Detroit's lead was short lived, though, as a furious stretch of sustained pressure resulted in several scoring opportunities for the Sockers. The second period would end with the Sockers up 5-2. Fighting to the bitter end, WAZA was able to find net five additional times in the second half. But it wasn't enough, as San Diego responded with five tallies of their own affirming their success.
As the dust settled on this hard fought and exciting game, Detroit struggled to find fault with their performance. "We showed that we have what it takes to make it to the championship. But in the end, luck just wasn't on our side. It was with San Diego. San Diego showed a lot of passion and a lot of fight. I have an awful lot of respect for them", said head coach Dominic Scicluna. "This loss will give us a gauge of where we are and where we need to be. Going forward, we are excited to defend our Eastern Divisional title next year and we will continue to progress and develop so that we can ensure our success for years to come".
Scoring for the Detroit WAZA FLO in this match were Costea Decu with a hat trick, Ryan Mack, Miki Djerisilo, Zane Polack and Zack Wilkes with a point each.
