TOO LITTLE TOO LATE AGAINST LIBERTY
In their third meeting this season, the Detroit Shock fell to the New York Liberty, 69-72, Sunday, June 12 at Madison Square Garden. Cheryl Ford led the Shock with 17 points and 11 rebounds, her fourth double-double in seven games this season. Deanna Nolan contributed 16 points and 5 rebounds. The Shock kept the game close in the final minutes and had a chance to win, but Nolan missed a three-pointer with 16 seconds left.
Shock AVOID BEING "STUNG"
Coming off the tough loss to the Seattle Storm, the Detroit Shock regrouped and beat the Charlotte Sting, 69-55, Friday, June 10 at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Cheryl Ford and Elaine Powell led the team with 12 points each. The Shock were able to make adjustments and had very balanced scoring. The Shock grabbed the lead early and never looked back, leading by as many as 19 in the second half.
Shock fall to the defending champs
The Detroit Shock suffered their first loss of the season Wednesday, June 8 at the Palace. In the match up of the two previous WNBA champions, it was reining Seattle Storm who came out on top, 61-76. Deanna Nolan had 23 points and 4 assists and Kara Braxton scored 15 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. The Shock rallied to within 10 points early in the second half, but Seattle, playing without star point guard Sue Bird, countered with an 11-2 run to take control of the game.
Shock giveaways this week
The first 3,000 fans in attendance when the Shock take on the Washington Mystics on Friday, June 24 will receive a Swin Cash visor courtesy of Rock Financial. The first 3,000 fans to arrive at the game on Sunday, June 26 against the Los Angeles Sparks will receive, Peace of Mind, a children's book written by Shock forward Swin Cash, courtesy of the Michigan Nurses Association.
DAD AND DAUGHTER DAYS AT THE PALACE
As part of a league-wide campaign this summer, the Detroit Shock will host Dad and Daughter nights on June 24 against Washington, July 17 against Indiana, and August 21 against Washington. On these nights, dads and daughters have the opportunity to compete in a dribbling obstacle course on the Palace court, enjoy the pre-game ShockFest, and cheer on their favorite Shock players.
