Detroit Shock News Release

Auburn Hills, MI - The Detroit Shock announced today that they have partnered with the city of Sterling Heights for the team's first-ever series of Community Night Challenges that will run throughout the 2007 season.

Sterling Heights is competing with other area communities in an effort to secure a playground or Live Learn & Play Center renovation for a local youth group.

"When you build a franchise and a fan base from the ground up the way the Detroit Shock has over the past 10 seasons, the sense of community involved in that process is evident," said Palace Sports and Entertainment President Tom Wilson. "Fans are a huge reason for our success."

To celebrate this connection between the Shock and the surrounding communities, the 2006 WNBA Champions have designated three of their home games this season as Community Nights - June 16 vs. the Indiana Fever, July 21 vs. the Washington Mystics and August 11 vs. the Fever. Local businesses and residents of Sterling Heights may purchase lower level tickets to these games for the special price of $10. For the competition, $4 will be allocated to their designated youth group. The city that is responsible for the most ticket sales to these three games will win the renovation.

Sterling Heights will also receive an on-court recognition of a local hero through the American Red Cross My Personal Hero initiative and a Detroit Shock Be Fit clinic, where the Shock will offer tips in exercise and nutrition.

Interested businesses and residents should log on to www.detroitshock.com/communitynights or contact the Shock at 248 377-0100 to learn more about Detroit Shock Community Nights Challenge.
