
Detroit Shock And American Heart Association's GO Red For Women Team Up To Promote Healthy Hearts

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. --- The Detroit Shock are joining forces with the American Heart Association's Go Red For Women to increase awareness of heart disease and encourage women to take action to reduce their personal risk. One in three women has some form of cardiovascular disease and heart disease is the No. 1 cause of death among women in the United States. Under the partnership, WNBA teams and players will encourage fans to take the Go Red Heart CheckUp at GoRedForWomen.org to calculate their personal, 10-year risk for heart disease and find information about controlling blood pressure, cholesterol and weight.
This season, WNBA teams are hosting in-arena nights to raise awareness of heart disease and encourage women to get involved in the movement. On June 26, the Shock will host their own Go Red For Women night at The Palace of Auburn Hills when they take on the Connecticut Sun. During in-arena night, the Shock are asking fans to wear red for a "Red Out" to recognize local heart disease survivors. The players will wear red "Go Red" shirts during shoot around and coaches will wear red ties and shirts. The first 5,000 fans will receive a scratch off card redeemable for a gift and there will be blood pressure screenings and public services announcements ran in-arena encouraging fans to get checked for heart disease.

ESPN2 is again providing appointment viewing in the form of its "WNBA Tuesdays" telecasts for the 2008 season. Combined coverage on ABC and ESPN2 will include 21 national telecasts, while NBA TV, the league's 24-hour television network, will offer 70 regular-season contests.
