Detroit Ignition News Release
(Southfield, Mich., July 9, 2007) - The Detroit Ignition has acquired the playing rights to defender Chad Dombrowski from the Milwaukee Wave with the second overall selection in the 2007 Major Indoor Soccer League Expansion Draft, Ignition President Greg Bibb announced Monday. Detroit had acquired the expansion pick in a previous trade with the California Cougars for netminder Sanaldo on June 5.
"We are excited to add a player of Chad's ability to our roster," Bibb stated. "He's a proven, veteran defender in the MISL. He's a smart player who can consistently mark the opposition's best offensive players while also possessing the ability to move forward and provide an added dimension to our attack."
Dombrowski registered eight goals and three assists for 20 points as a member of the Milwaukee Wave during the 2006-07 regular season. The 26-year-old defender was selected as a second-team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in 2002 and named to the first-team All-Horizon League during his last two collegiate seasons at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
During the Expansion Draft, the Ignition lost forward Carlos "Chile" Farias (Round 2) to the Chicago Storm as well as veteran defender Bill Sedgewick (Round 4) and midfielder Miodrag Djerisilo (Round 5) to the Orlando Sharks. The second-year club also lost the playing rights to Gary Sullivan and Mauricio Salles to the New Jersey Ironmen.
