Detroit Hoops Find Rising Stars Among Opening Series Losses
December 16, 2008 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Detroit Hoops News Release
Detroit, MI. The ABA Detroit Hoops started the season with two losses against the very strong Cleveland Rockers, but got some outstanding play from some of the newcomers to the squad who joined with a former ABA All-Star.
The play of Anthony "AJ" Jones from Indiana Tech was outstanding as he averaged 35.5PPG, 8.5 rebounds and led the team in assists with 5.5. His outstanding play was matched by fellow newcomer to the ABA, Kenny Gupton, who averaged 22ppg and 9.0 rebounds.
Veteran leadership is very important and the Hoops got it from former ABA All-Star and University of Georgia standout Katu Davis. Davis showed great leadership and kept a strong, consistent stat line by being in the top 5 in three different categories, including scoring 9.5ppg, 6.5 rebounds and4.5 assists. According to Coach Turner, "With team play like this, it won't take long for the Hoops to get in the win column. It's a long season - and we're getting better."
