Waza Flo News Release

(Detroit, MI) Costea Decu's only goal of the match in the ninth minute of the fourth quarter proved to be the game winner as the WAZA FLO defeated the Illinois Piasa on Saturday in the first game of their weekend road trip.

"As a team, we were looking forward to this matchup. It was a very good game. It's fast. There's a lot of very good attacking on both sides. Decu's goal is a great piece of skill." said WAZA head coach, Dominic Scicluna. "I am extremely happy."

Detroit's Michael Grba scored first taking the lead in the first five minutes of the match. Illinois quickly evened the score ending the first period 1 - 1. Detroit again took the advantage in the second period with Ryan Mack finding net, followed by a shot from the Piasa less than two minutes later. This back and forth scoring battle continued for the duration of the half with WAZA's Michael Grba and Ryan Mack adding additional points, for a set of braces each, leaving the first half tied 4-4.

The third period ended scoreless for both sides as Detroit's Victor Otieno buried the ball into the back of the net a mere 10 seconds into the fourth quarter bringing WAZA to a 5-4 lead. This lead would fall two minutes later with a goal by the Piasa tying the match 5-5. This tie would end with Costea Decu's game winning goal.

Adding Scicluna, "This was a great win. We needed this win. Fortunately we were able to put this one away."

Sunday's result was less fortunate as Detroit fell to the Kansas Magic 11-7.

The Detroit WAZA FLO will finish the season on the road for a double header the week after next. They will play the Louisville Lightning on Friday, February 24th, at the Mocking Valley Soccer Club, 7:30 pm start time and the Cincinnati Kings on Saturday, February 25th, at the Cincinnati Gardens, 7:35 pm kick off.
