Detroit Fury News Release
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - Members of the Detroit Fury Arena Football team will visit the pediatrics unit of the Hurley Medical Center in Flint on Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at 3:00 PM. The Fury are extending their community outreach into different areas of Michigan.
Hospitalized children in the unit will have the chance to meet and talk with Fury players on a one-on-one basis. The kids will also have an opportunity to meet the Detroit Fury Cheerleaders and Frenzy, the AFL's two-time Mascot of the Year. The group will sign autographs and hand out Fury merchandise for the children as a reminder of the day. The players' main goal is to make every child on the floor smile; their secondary goal is to make some new Fury fans.
"Our players want to get out into the community and touch as many lives as possible," said Dave Wieme, director of operations of the Fury. "They understand the importance of community outreach in the grand scheme of things. If our players can make a little bit of difference in these children's lives, then I say, mission accomplished."
Media should enter Hurley Medical Center through the main entrance and proceed to the pediatrics unit. Hurley Medical Center is located at 1 Hurley Plaza, Flint, MI 48502.
The Fury's next home game is May 2, 2004 vs. the Chicago Rush and will be televised nationally on NBC. Tickets for Fury home games can be purchased by calling (248) 377-0100 and additional information can be found at www.detroitfury.com.
