Destroyers reduce roster by two

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Columbus Destroyers trimmed its roster by two players on Tuesday when the team released rookie offensive/defensive linemen Norman Heuer and Shane Jones, team President David Paitson announced.

Heuer (6-5, 300, Michigan) and Jones (6-1, 308, Arizona State) joined the team via trade in November. Heuer played in 10 games for the Amsterdam Admirals of NFL Europe in 2005 helping the Admirals take home the World Bowl XII title. He played for the University of Michigan where he won the Dick Katcher Award, which is awarded to Michigan's top defensive lineman.

Jones had a brief stint with the Arizona Rattlers in 2005 after spending his collegiate career at Arizona State. There, he worked his way into the starting lineup by 2002, his junior year. He started in six games that season and played in 14. Jones recorded 44 tackles (18UT-26AT) and added 2.5 tackles for a loss. His senior season saw him record 45 tackles (28UT-17AT), eight tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks and an interception.

The Destroyers continue with Training Camp Wednesday at the Columbus FieldHouse with practices running from 8:30-10:45 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.-1:15 p.m.

The Destroyers kickoff their 2006 season on Huntington Field at Nationwide Arena against the Grand Rapids Rampage on Sunday, Jan. 29 at 3 p.m. Richard Childress Racing's legendary black #3 NASCAR driven by Dale Earnhardt, Sr. along with Germain's NASCAR Truck Team favorites #30 Todd Bodine and #9 Justin Hobgood will be on display.
