January 17, 2006 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Tampa Bay Storm News Release

TAMPA BAY - The five-time world champion Tampa Bay Storm will host the Orlando Predators in a preseason scrimmage on Wednesday, January 18 at 7:30 p.m. The preview of the Arena Football League's most storied rivalry will be free and open to the public.

This will be the first and only action against another team the Storm will see prior to opening the season in Philadelphia on January 29. The scrimmage will also be important for AFL newcomers Mondre Dickerson, Bill Gramatica, Lionel Green, Aaron Hunt, Ben Lynch, Leroy Smith, Greg Taplin and Huey Whittaker in making an impression on the coaching staff. Former Predator Buck Gurley will also see his former team for the first time since signing with Tampa Bay. Former Storm WR/DB and USF Bull Clif Dell is expected to miss the game for Orlando due to injury.

The two teams split the War on I-4 series in 2005 with each team winning in their own building. Tampa Bay downed Orlando 54-42 on April 9 at the St. Pete Times Forum en route to a record-setting undefeated season at home (8-0). The Storm leads the all-time series 19-18.

The Storm and Predators have combined for seven World Championships and 12 ArenaBowl appearances. The teams have met in the championship game twice and split the games with Tampa Bay winning ArenaBowl IX 48-35 at the ThunderDome in St. Petersburg, Florida and Orlando taking ArenaBowl XII in Tampa.

The 2006 Tampa Bay Storm season, presented by Champs Sports, kicks off on January 29, 2006 in Philadelphia (3 p.m., AFL on NBC, 620 AM) with the home opener scheduled for February 10, 2006 against the defending National Conference Champion Georgia Force. Season tickets start as low as $150. For more information visit www.tampabaystorm.com or call 813.301.6600.
