Columbus Destroyers News Release
COLUMBUS, OH â The Columbus Destroyers of the Arena Football League have signed four players to their practice squad, all whom attended training camp with the team this year and are entering their first season in the AFL.
The four-man practice squad includes quarterback Scott McMullen, offensive specialist Randall Lane and defensive specialists Bobby Britton and Justin Isom.
McMullen joins the Destroyers after a successful collegiate career at The Ohio State University from 2000-2003. The Buckeyes No. 2 signal caller in 2003, McMullen began his career at Ohio State as a red-shirted freshman in 1999 before seeing his first action the following season. He would go on to appear in 20 games during his collegiate career, completed 87-of-141 passes for 1,103 yards and nine touchdowns.
Lane comes to Columbus after spending one season as a member of the arenafootball2's Green Bay Blizzard. Lane, limited to only eight games because of a knee injury, caught 61 passes for 1,144 yards and 24 touchdowns with Green Bay before being named to the All-af2 National Conference Second Team. His per-game average of 143 total yards led the league. Lane also spent time with the Peoria Pirates of arenafootball2 before joining Green Bay. Before entering af2, Lane had a brief stint with the NFL's Arizona Cardinals (2000), however suffered foot injury during training camp.
Britton played defensive back and was a standout on special teams at The Ohio State University from 2000-2003, appearing in 30 games during his four-year career. His best season came in 2001 where he recorded ten tackles in seven games played. Britton made his first-career start at UCLA in week two before being sidelined with a groin injury that would keep him out of action for most of the season. He finished his career at Ohio State with 21 total tackles (11 solo) and two blocked kicks.
Isom enters the professional ranks after three years as a corner for the University of Minnesota (2001-2003). As a junior, Isom led the Golden Gophers in interceptions with three and was third on the squad in tackles with 68. He transferred from Butler University in 1999 and was forced to miss the 2000 season due to transfer regulations. Isom played in all 10 games for Butler as a true freshman, helping Butler to a 5-5 record where he made 41 tackles (30 solo) to rank seventh on the team.
