COLUMBUS - The Columbus Destroyers, presented by GermainCars.com, fell to the Baltimore Brigade, 44-39, in front of 6,260 fans at Nationwide Arena on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Destroyers drop to 1-7 on the season. Quarterback Grant Russell totaled six touchdowns in the loss (five passing/one rushing), completing 19 of his 33 passes for 235 yards. Wide receiver Fabian Guerra caught two touchdowns in defeat, while wide receiver Donovan Morgan caught his first touchdown pass as a Destroyer as well.

Columbus got the scoring started when Russell connected with wide receiver Paul Browning on a 22-yard touchdown to give the Destroyers an early 6-0 lead. Baltimore countered with a touchdown of their own its first drive, as Brigade quarterback Shane Boyd found wide receiver Brandon Collins for a 23-yard touchdown and a 7-6 lead. Russell pulled it down and ran it in himself from five yards out on the ensuing possession to give Columbus the lead back, 13-7. The Brigade answered again on the next drive when Boy found wide receiver Joe Hills for an 11-yard touchdown, his 100th straight game with a touchdown, to even the score, 13-13.

In the second quarter, Russell found Guerra for 12-yard throw-and-catch touchdown to give Columbus the lead once again, 20-13. Baltimore was quick to respond, as Boyd connected with Hills for his second score of the game to tie things up, 20-20.

The Brigade jumped in front early in the second half when Collins hauled in his second touchdown of the game, this time 37 yards out from Boyd to give Baltimore a 27-20 edge. The Destroyers responded on their next possession, when Russell found Morgan for his first touchdown in a Columbus uniform to tie the game once again, 27-27. It was Collins for the third time on the day on the next series, as Boyd found him for a 19-yard scoring strike to give Baltimore a 34-27 advantage.

In the fourth quarter after a Columbus turnover on downs, the Brigade extended their lead to 41-27 when Boyd found wide receiver Milton Williams for a 16-yard touchdown. Columbus cut into the Baltimore lead on the next possession when Russell connected with wide receiver Kenny Cook for an eight-yard touchdown to make the score 41-33. After the Brigade tacked on a field goal, Russell threw for his fifth touchdown of the game, hooking up with Guerra for a 26-yard score to cut the deficit to five, 44-39. The ensuing onside kick was recovered by the Brigade, however, sealing a road victory for Baltimore.

Next up for the Destroyers is a home matchup with the Philadelphia Soul on Saturday, June 22nd at 7:00pm from Nationwide Arena. The game can be seen live on The CW, heard on CD102.5, and streamed on ESPN3.
