COLUMBUS - The Columbus Destroyers, presented by GermainCars.com, fell to the Philadelphia Soul, 42-35, on Saturday night in front of 7,604 fans at Nationwide Arena, the largest crowd of the season. With the loss, the Destroyers drop to 1-8 on the season. Quarterback Grant Russell completed 23 of his 39 passes for 237 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions in the loss. Wide receiver Fabian Guerra hauled in nine passes for 75 yards and three touchdowns, while wide receiver Paul Browning caught two more scores.

The Soul got the scoring started when fullback Adrian Ferns plunged into the end zone from two yards out to give Philadelphia an early 7-0 lead. The Destroyers countered with their first score of the evening on the next series, as Russell connected with Browning for a one-yard touchdown pass to even the score, 7-7.

In the second quarter, Philadelphia jumped back in front on their next possession, as quarterback Dan Raudabaugh found wide receiver Darius Prince for a four-yard score. Columbus tied things up once again, 14-14, when Russell found Guerra for a six-yard touchdown pass. The Soul quickly answered when Raudabaugh connected with wide receiver B.J. Bunn for a 39-yard touchdown. A missed extra point by kicker Kenny Spencer made the score 20-14 in favor of the Soul. After a filed onside kick from the Soul, Russell connected with Guerra for his second score of the night, this time from nine yards out to give Columbus their first lead of the night, 21-20. The Soul closed the half by jumping back in front, 27-21, when Raudbaugh hit wide receiver Lonnie Outlaw with a six-yard touchdown just before halftime.

Russell was picked off to start the second half, but defensive back Varmah Sonie got the ball back to the Destroyers a few players later when he intercepted a pass from Raudabaugh. On that next possession, Russell found Browning for his second score of the night, this one from eight yards out to give the Destroyers the lead once again, 28-27.

In the fourth quarter, the Soul grabbed the edge once again when Bunn rushed one in from three yards out to give the advantage back to Philadelphia, 34-28. On the ensuing possession, Russell and Guerra hooked up for the third time on the night, this time a one-yard touchdown to give Columbus a 35-34 edge. Raudabaugh answered on the Soul's next possession to close the scoring for the evening, finding wide receiver Jordan Williams for a 45-yard touchdown. A successful two-point conversion solidified a 42-35 road win for Philadelphia
