Destroyers Begin Preparations for Season with Mini Camp January 7-9

COLUMBUS, OH – The Columbus Destroyers of the Arena Football League will kick off the 2004 season with a three-day mini camp, set to begin Wednesday, January 7 and run through Friday, January 9 at the Columbus FieldHouse Athletic Center. The Destroyers' inaugural mini camp will consist of 25 players, including centers and skilled-positioned players with the team's remaining contracted players scheduled to report for main camp on January 11.

Beginning Wednesday, the Destroyers will hold two-a-day practices consisting of a morning session which will run from 9-11 a.m. and an afternoon session which will run from 2-4 p.m. The team's practice schedule will remain consistent for all three days. Mini camp will give head coach Earle Bruce and his staff an opportunity to evaluate free agent signings as well as returning veterans prior to the onset of main camp.

Mini camp will feature key free agent additions including wide receiver/linebacker Corey Hill, who holds the professional football record for the most receptions in a single season with 161, offensive specialist Jamaine "Coco" Blalock, and quarterback John Rayborn. The Destroyers return 13 players from last year's team in Buffalo, including one of the team's top receivers from a season ago in offensive specialist Jarrail Jackson, the team's third all-time leading rusher in fullback/linebacker Juan Long, and defensive specialist JoJo Polk, who set a Destroyers single-season record for tackles with 86.5 in 2003.

The Columbus Destroyers kick off the 2004 season Saturday, February 7 at Indiana followed by the inaugural home opener Friday, February 13 hosting Carolina.
