Columbus Destroyers News Release

COLUMBUS, OH – Fullback/linebacker Sedrick Irvin, a former fourth round draft selection of the Detroit Lions, has been acquired by the Arena Football League's Columbus Destroyers from the Grand Rapids Rampage in exchange for defensive specialist JoJo Polk, the team announced today.

Irvin, who is in his rookie season in the AFL, was selected by the Lions in the fourth round (103rd overall) in the 1999 NFL Draft. He played three seasons with the Lions, appearing in 20 games from 1999-2001 before spending the 2003 season with the Miami Dolphins. His NFL totals include 182 yards rushing, four rushing touchdowns and 33 pass receptions for 323 yards.

Irvin left Michigan State University as the school's fourth all-time leading rusher with 3,504 yards in only three years with the program. He ranks second in MSU history with 35 career rushing touchdowns and 42 total touchdowns and is one of only two players in school history to rush for over 1,000 yards in three different seasons. He ranks third in school history in all purpose yards gained (4,833), fifth in career points scored (252) and is ninth on the Spartan's all-time career receptions list (108).

Polk returns to the Rampage franchise after spending the past two and a half seasons with the Destroyers. He leaves as the club's all-time leader in single-season tackles (86.5) and career tackles (177.5). Polk began his career in Grand Rapids, spending two seasons with the Rampage from 2001-2002.

In addition, the Destroyers have agreed to terms with offensive/defensive lineman Ronnie Washburn. Washburn (6-3, 265, Livingston College) joins the Destroyers after spending last season with the af2's Green Bay Blizzard where he was named Second-Team All-af2 after recording 15 tackles (13 solo), three sacks and two forced fumbles in 15 games.

Washburn began his Arena career with the Carolina Rhinos in 2001 where he registered a team-high 15.5 sacks before being named First-Team all-af2 and receiving the league's Built Ford Tough Award. He broke into the AFL in 2002, spending time with both the Dallas Desperados and Chicago Rush before returning to arena2 the following season as a member of the Cincinnati Swarm in 2003.

In other personnel moves, the Destroyers have activated offensive/defensive lineman LaKendrick Jones off injured reserve and placed offensive/defensive lineman Norris McCleary on injured reserve. As a result, McCleary will be sidelined for a minimum of two weeks.

The Destroyers return to action this Sunday, March 20 when the club travels to Colorado to face the Crush at the Pepsi Center. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. (ET).
