Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Kannapolis Intimidators (19-19, 47-59) got a couple big hits when it mattered on Monday night against the Greensboro Grasshoppers (19-18, 63-43) and saw their pitching staff dominate in a 4-0 win at First National Bank Park.
Through three innings, both sides were scoreless and had combined for just one hit. In the fourth inning that changed.
Already leading the Intimidators in both home runs and RBI, Alex Destino blasted a two-run shot (13) in the top of the fourth to take a 2-0 lead.
Just two short innings later, Destino did it again. On the first pitch thrown in the top of the sixth inning, Destino sent a solo home run over the right-center wall. Just two batters later, Amado Nunez did the exact same thing, except this time sending the solo shot (6) to left-center and extending the lead to 4-0.
For his second straight start, Jason Bilous (W, 4-6) and Wilber Perez (S, 4) pitched a combined, scoreless gem. Bilous went six innings, gave up just two hits, no runs, and struck out five batters while walking just two.
Perez came entered in the seventh inning and continued his on-going streak at 8.2 IP without even giving up a hit. That streak continued for the next two innings, but was ultimately snapped when Greensboro led off the bottom of the ninth with a hit. Regardless, Perez went three innings, giving up just that one hit, no runs, and striking out three while guiding Kannapolis to the 4-0 victory.
The Intimidators will have an off day on Tuesday, and will return home on Wednesday to begin a series with the Columbia Fireflies.
