Dallas Desperados News Release
The Dallas Desperados wrapped up their first week of training camp on Saturday with a spirited intra-squad scrimmage at the Cowboys indoor practice facility in Valley Ranch. The team ran 75 plays with their different player groups in game-type conditions, looking at various combinations of players. It allowed the new players to get a feel for the speed of the game and gave everybody an opportunity to learn how the coaching staff will be calling games.
"I have no major complaints with the way they've gone through the first week of camp," states Head Coach Joe Avezzano. "Today's scrimmage had very good intensity, good effort. Now we have to make the technical corrections and move to the next phase against other teams next week."
The team will take Sunday off before welcoming the Austin Wranglers to town for two days of inter-squad workouts. The Desperados and Wranglers will work out twice on Monday and Tuesday against each other, with all four practices taking place at Texas Stadium (weather permitting).
"I've always liked going against other teams in controlled preseason practices. The newness adds a fresh approach to the players and coaches," continues Avezzano. "I'm looking forward to Austin coming in here and practicing next week."
The workouts with the Wranglers will be the Desperados first work against another opponent and will be an indicator as to how much work the team has to do before their season opener against the Carolina Cobras on Feb. 8. Following is the practice schedule for Dallas' workouts with Austin.
