With their 62-51 victory over the Grand Rapids Rampage at Van Andel Arena Sunday afternoon, the Dallas Desperados clinched the Central Division title and a fifth seed in the upcoming Arena Football League playoffs. The Desperados will host the Georgia Force Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. (CT) at Reunion Arena to kick off the Drive to ArenaBowl XVII.
After falling behind 28-14 late in the second quarter, the Desperados outscored the Rampage 48-23 over the final 30 minutes and 22 seconds of the game to secure the division crown. Quarterback Jim Kubiak â who was named the game's MVP after throwing for 345 yards, eight touchdowns and an interception on 29-of-39 passing â became the AFL's single-season passing yardage leader with a nine-yard pass to Andy McCullough midway through the second quarter. Kubiak finished the season with 4,763 yards, eclipsing Aaron Garcia's league record of 4,515 yards in 2001. Kubiak also closed the season completing 69.7% of his passes, the highest single-season completion percentage in league history, surpassing Garcia's 69.6% in 2001.
