Dallas Desperados News Release
DALLAS, Texas - The Dallas Desperados signed defensive lineman Colston "Cee" Weatherington to a two-year extension today as announced by team officials, locking up one the team's premier players through 2010.
"Colston has been a big part of the Desperados success as the anchor of our defensive line and we are thrilled to be able to have him in Dallas for our future success," said Desperados Chief Operating Officer Shy Anderson. "Locking up one of the most dominant pass rushers in the league was a top priority for this organization and is something that will pay dividends for the Desperados not only in this season but for many seasons to come."
A two-time All-AFL First Team and the 2006 AFL Lineman of the Year, Weatherington is the franchise's all-time sack leader with 26.5 sacks while also posting 73 tackles, eight forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, 16 pass breakups and six blocked kicks in his four-year AFL career.
In 2007, Weatherington was named to the AFL All-Arena First Team after finishing with a team and career-high 10.0 sacks - second most in the AFL - along with 19.5 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, seven pass breakups, five forced fumbles and two blocked kicks.
"Cee is in the top tier of players in the AFL, not just from a defensive line standpoint but as an impact player," said Desperados Head Coach Will McClay. "To have a player of his caliber under contract speaks volumes about the job our organization does to keep our players here and shows our fans that we are committed to doing everything it takes to win. He has gotten better each year and we feel the best is yet to come from him."
The Dallas Desperados open the 2008 season in a nationally televised game on ABC at the Georgia Force on March 1 at 12 p.m.
