July 8, 2002 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Dallas Desperados News Release

The Dallas Desperados got back to their winning ways last Saturday night as they disposed of the Detroit Fury 61-54 with a last second touchdown. The victory assured Dallas of a non-losing record in its inaugural season, as well as clinching the club's first playoff berth.

The Desperados had their hands full with the Fury on Saturday. After jumping to an early 28-9 lead, Dallas watched Detroit take a 46-45 advantage midway through the final quarter. Dallas quickly re-took an eight-point lead before the Fury tied the score with 0:26 remaining in the game. Kareem Larrimore returned the ensuing kickoff to the Fury 19-yard line. Two plays later, Andy Kelly hooked up with Andy McCullough on a seven-yard scoring pass for the winning touchdown with 0:03 left in the game.

Dallas travels to Chicago this weekend to face the Rush at Allstate Arena. Chicago defeated the Grand Rapids Rampage 56-50 last weekend to clinch the Central Division title. Both teams look at this weekend's game as a big game, with both teams still competing for playoff seedings and the advantageous bye the opening weekend of the postseason. Dallas enters the game with a 7-5 record while the Rush sport an 8-4 mark.

The Desperados begin preparations for the Rush Tuesday at American Airlines Center and will continue through the week. Coach Avezzano's weekly press luncheon will not occur this week due to the practice schedule change, but he will be available following each practice and at 12:30 p.m. Thursday outside the Desperados locker room at Texas Stadium.
