Desperados Make Roster Moves

March 28, 2003 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Dallas Desperados News Release

The Dallas Desperados today announced that they have placed OL/DL Shante Carver on Reserve/Injured and activated FB/LB Jeremy Beutler and OL/DL Ben Huff from Reserve/Injured. The Desperados were carrying only 23 people on their roster before today's transactions. They now have the AFL maximum 24 players on their roster.

Carver underwent surgery on March 27 to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee and will be out of action for four-to-six weeks. Carver's injury originally flaired up four weeks ago while the team was playing the Arizona Rattlers in Phoenix on March 2. After sitting out the next game, he returned to action and played the next three weeks before spraining the knee last Friday night in a game against the Carolina Cobras in Charlotte. He underwent a MRI exam on Monday that detected the torn meniscus. At the time of the surgery, Carver was second on the team with 2.5 sacks while also totaling 9.5 tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Beutler has spent the first eight weeks of the season on Dallas' Reserve/Injured list with bursitis in his left knee. A fullback/linebacker by trade, he also has the ability to play along the lines, giving the Desperados additional flexibility. He originally joined the Desperados on May 28, 2002 when Dallas traded Rico Clark to Carolina for Beutler.

Huff was part of the Desperados 24-man roster for the first five weeks of the season before being placed on Reserve/Injured on Feb. 28 with right quadriceps tendonitis. He was inactive for each of Dallas' five games during February. He originally joined the Desperados on Oct. 23, 2002 as part of the trade that sent Andy Kelly, Jason Kaiser and Matt Norwood to the Detroit Fury. He played in four games with the Fury in 2002.

The Dallas Desperados host the Indiana Firebirds this Saturday night, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the game are available by calling 972-785-4900, visiting metroplex TicketMaster locations or by ordering through the Desperados website at www.dallasdesperados.com.
