Deshields Gets The Win In Owls Debut

July 5, 2014 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Forest City Owls News Release

FOREST CITY- After not throwing an inning of college baseball in the spring due to injury, Anders DeShields debuted for the Forest City Owls on Friday night throwing 6.1 innings of one run baseball to help his club get a win in Asheboro.

Devin Wenzel and Conor Clancey would drive in a run a piece and that's all the offense the Owls would need against the Copperheads defeating them 2-1.

DeShields allowed one run on four hits and struck out two in six and 1/3 innings before Joe Graziano got the Owls to the ninth setting up a save situation.

Brock Goodling entered the contest in front of a season high 3,086 fans at McCrary Park and earned his sixth save of the year striking out three.

The Owls were held hitless through the first three innings before Steven Pallares singled in the fourth and was followed by Wenzel who tripled off the wall scoring Pallares for the first run of the game.

In the sixth inning, Clancey delivered a huge two out RBI single which would end up being the game winning run for the Owls.

The Copperheads scored their run in the seventh inning with a Kyle Hamner single.

Steven Pallares recorded two hits tonight and now has five multi-hit games out of the past six.

The Owls will get back to their home field Saturday night to take on the HP-Thomasville Hi-Toms for their first league home game in a week and the biggest fireworks show of the year.
