
Desharnais and Ejov win QMJHL player of the week awards

BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, December 5, 2005 (QMJHL) - Chicoutimi Saguenéens forward David Desharnais and St. John's Fog Devils goaltender Ilia Ejov were named offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from November 28th to December 4th.
In two games, Desharnais totalled three goals and five assists, notching a +3 (plus/minus) differential while having a hand in 8 of his team's 13 goals (61.5%). His best performance came yesterday against the Drummondville Voltigeurs as he managed five points in a 6-4 win, becoming the 10th player to reach the 50 point mark this season. The Saguenéens are nearly invincible at home this year, with 14 wins in 16 games at the Georges-Vézina Center. They currently lead the Western division standings by one point over the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.
Guillaume Latendresse (4-6-10) of Drummondville, Maxime Lincourt (2-7-9) of Rimouski and David Krejci (3-5-8) of Gatineau were also considered.
The defensive player of the week award goes to Fog Devils goaltender Ilia Ejov. In three games this week, Ejov notched three wins; one coming against the Sea Dogs and two versus the Mooseheads on back to back nights Friday and Saturday. In both of those games, he was credited with the game's third star. Furthermore, he posted a 2.33 goals-against-average as well as a .922 save percentage while facing an average of 30 shots per game. His record now stands at 7 wins and 8 losses. Head Coach and General Manager Réal Paiement's troops are in the midst of their best showing since the start-up of the franchise, having won four straight games. Ejov becomes the second goaltender to be named defensive player of the week following Brandon Verge at the beginning of the season
Other players considered for the defensive player of the week award were defensemen Frédéric St-Denis (1-6-7) of Drummondville and Michel Champagne (0-2-2) of Gatineau as well as goaltender David Tremblay (2-0-0; 1SO; 120 MP; 1.50 GAA; .952 SAV%) also of Gatineau.
