Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
With the 2007 post-season ready to get underway on Wednesday night, the Swing of the Quad Cities finalized their playoff roster on Tuesday with the addition of infielder Daniel Descalso. In a corresponding move, outfielder Antone DeJesus was placed on the Disabled List.
Descalso, 20, was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the third round of the 2007 draft out of UC-Davis, making him the highest drafted player ever out of that university. After hitting .397 with 22 doubles and 53 runs in 56 games for the Aggies, Descalso made his pro debut with the Batavia Muckdogs of the New York-Penn League. Descalso hit .268 with 31 RBI and 12 stolen bases in 66 games with Batavia, including a stretch from July 24-August 31 in which he hit safely in 30 of 33 games while batting .346.
DeJesus, a 21-year-old out fielder taken in the 16th round of the draft out of Kentucky, was placed on the DL with a torn tendon sheath in his left wrist. The speedy leadoff hitter had emerged as a stellar defender and sparkplug for the Swing offense before the injury, scoring 30 runs and stealing nine bases in 42 games, including a 13-game hitting streak from July 22-August 4. DeJesus had been limited to pinch-running duties since August 21.
The Swing of the Quad Cities roster currently stands at 25 active players, the maximum allowed by the Midwest League. An updated roster accompanies this release.
