Denver Cutthroats Power Play Prevails in Game Two of Playoffs

Tulsa - The Denver Cutthroats and Tulsa Oilers battled for the second game in the opening round of the 2014 Playoffs in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Saturday, April 5. The Central Hockey League's 2013-14 Most Valuable Player Garett Bembridge netted two power play goals and a breakaway in the final 20 minutes of play to help the Cutthroats defeat the Oilers 4-2.

Troy Schwab (Bembridge, A.J. Gale) scored the first goal of the game to give the Denver Cutthroats a 1-0 lead over the Tulsa Oilers just 39 seconds into the opening frame. The Oilers Ben Gordon (Ryan Menei, Adam Pleskach) tied the score at one with a shot between the Cutthroats posts just two and a half minutes later.

After a scoreless second period, the Denver Cutthroats netted three goals in the final 20 minutes of play to take charge over the Tulsa Oilers. On the power play, Garett Bembridge (Gale, J.P. Chabot) found the back of Tulsa's net for a 2-1 lead. Ben Gordon (Menei, Jake Obermeyer) responded with the Oilers second shot past Cutthroats netminder Kent Patterson to tie the score at two. Garett Bembridge (Gale, Steve Kaunisto) fired a one-timer on the power play to reclaim the Cutthroats lead for the third time in the night. With 8:52 remaining in regulation, Bembridge (Schwab, Gale) netted his third shot of the night for a hat trick and gave the Cutthroats a 4-2 victory over the Oilers. The Cutthroats win on Saturday night splits their Playoff record with one win and one loss headed home for a three-game set against the Oilers.
