Florida Seals News Release
[KISSIMMEE, Fla.]- Terry Denike stopped all 33 shots he faced and the offense chipped in six goals to give the Seals a Friday night 6-0 victory over Fayetteville. Florida sent over 2,500 fans home happy with two goals in each period in their most complete effort so far this season.
Seals Head Coach Tommy Stewart has said he wants his team to work hard for 60-minutes night in and night out and his players answered the bell Friday night in Kissimmee. Florida started the scoring early when Andrew Kaztberg began his big night with a goal 2:54 into the contest. Florida's captain Steve Zoryk began his two goal night when he tipped a Trevor Hammer pass to the back of the net late in the first period.
Playing a very physical style in the first period, one wondered if the Seals could continue to keep the pressure on the quick FireAntz in the middle period. The answer was yes as Rob Sich returned from his two game suspension with his eighth goal of the year just four minutes into the frame. Casey Handrahan and Katzberg were credited with assists, leaving Katzberg only a fight away from a Gordie Howe hat trick.
Florida continued to be physical and not allow Fayetteville many quality chances when they got in the offensive zone. The Seals first line produced a hard working goal when Craig Miller brought he puck in the zone and found John Gurskis with a tape-to-tape pass. Gurskis' shot was saved by Ridler but he left the rebound in front where Zoryk lit the lamp for the 21st time this season, sending Ridler to the bench.
Fans certainly got their money's worth at the Silver Spurs Arena when Katzberg dropped his gloves and completed the special trick with a fight against Fayetteville's Jeff Coulter. Both guys got their licks in and the fans stood in appreciation of a good hockey tilt.
The third period started with a few questions to be answered. Would the Seals play hard all 20 minutes? Would Denike earn a shutout? Would the Seals score more goals? All three were answered with a yes.
Handrahan and Katzberg both finished their three point nights with goals in the middle part of the period. Denike continued his brilliance in net making 12 saves in the final period to secure the victory.
The Seals return to their home ice tomorrow night when the Jacksonville Barracudas come to Central Florida. The puck drops at 7:35 pm on "Faith Night." All religious groups are invited to attend and receive special ticket discounts. Stay after the game as Shades of Green will perform an inspirational post game concert.
