Jacksonville Barracudas News Release

The Jacksonville Barracudas picked up their biggest win of the season Thursday night against the league-leading Fayetteville FireAntz, winning 4-2.

The Barracudas took the game to the Antz in the first period, firing 18 shots at opposing goaltender Glen Ridler, but both teams came up empty on the scoreboard.

The Barracudas and FireAntz exchanged goals in the second period, scoring two each. Jeff Antonovich opened up the scoring for the FireAntz, but it took just five minutes for Jason Simon to tie the game, with a rocket of a wrist shot over Ridler's shoulder.

Dean Jackson regained the lead for the FireAntz a short time later, but Chris Hackett drew the Barracudas into a tie with a beautiful shorthanded breakaway goal.

In the third period the Barracudas took the game over, backstopped by solid goaltending from Robb Stauber, who made his debut for the Barracudas. Chad Peck scored the eventual game winner just five minutes into the third, on assists from Patrick Doherty and Taras Foremsky.

Stauber made a number of big saves to preserve the one-goal lead, until Ryan Webb used a superb individual effort and two passes from Chris Hackett and Brett Strot to score the insurance goal.

Hackett's shorthanded goal was the only special teams goal, as neither team scored on any of their power play chances.

Tonight the Barracudas face off against the Huntsville Havoc at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena. It is Faith and Family Night, and the first 1,500 fans in the building will receive thundersticks. Due to the enormous response to this event, and the number of tickets that have been sold already, fans are encouraged to purchase their tickets as early as possible to avoid lines. Be sure not to miss this exciting event! The puck drops at 7:05pm.
