Aurora Cavalry News Release

Aurora, Colorado - Dejon Jernagin, a former professional basketball player and Harlem Globetrotter, has been named the head coach and general manager of the Aurora Cavalry, an International Basketball League (IBL) team. The announcement was made today by Aurora Cavalry co-owners, Joel Jose and Dirk Speyer.

"Dejon is a man of great character and basketball knowledge. He is exactly the type of person we have been looking for in a head coach and general manager," said Jose. "He has strong ties to the Colorado community and Colorado basketball community."

"We interviewed many great applicants for the position but we felt that Dejon shares the same vision for this organization that we do. He has great integrity and work ethic as well as a strong passion for the game," said Speyer. "Dejon has a plan that will make us into a very, very competitive team for the 2006 season. He also has a great vision that will strengthen our ties with the community and its youth."

Jernagin's experience includes 17 years of high school, college and professional point guard experience in the United States and abroad. Dejon played Varsity basketball at John Muir High School in Southern California. He was named one of the Top 50 Players in California by Cal High School Sports Magazine in 1989. In 1997, Jernagin's talent was also recognized by Coach Danny Ainge of the Phoenix Suns, and was invited to participate in the Suns Rookie Basketball Camp. There he played with the likes of Steve Nash, Michael Finley, Kevin Johnson, Clifford Robinson and Jason Kidd. From 1996-1998 Jernagin toured with the Harlem Globetrotters and played with the New York Nationals as a point guard where he showcased his ball handling skills. Jernagin has a lengthy history of working with kids and helping them achieve their goals both on and off the court. He is currently the Director of the Student Athlete Assistance Service Personal Basketball Training and Recruiting Program. Jernagin also is the C.E.O. of Student Athlete Assistance Service, a company that helps high school students and athletes obtain college opportunities and scholarships.
